Are You Ball Oriented?

Sunday, April 27th, 2008

Golf is a rather unique sport. It is the only one where the ball sits still and waits for you to hit it.

Because of this, many golfers focus intently on the ball - not the target.

To correct this problem, try this:

During your pre-shot routine, look intently at your target, then take a couple of practice swings. Try to feel that your are hitting to the target from there. When you are satisfied that you have the target well in mind, walk to your ball.

Once over the ball, stare back at your target again. Then look back at your ball, but only briefly. Make your alignment adjustments, then look at the target one last time - focus intently on the spot where you want to hit the ball and hold that picture in your mind. Now look back at your ball, relax, and let it rip - just as you did in your practice swings.

Remember, golf is a target sport and the ball just gets in the way of your “target” swing.

Great Golfing,

Bob
